The Hypercat Summit 2016
Almost 2,000 smart-city thinkers from 47 countries gathered at London’s Royal Festival Hall on Monday 20 June for the Hypercat Summit, which also saw the official launch of Senate Publishing’s Smart Cities: Innovation through Collaboration. This groundbreaking publication has been produced in partnership with summit organisers the Hypercat Alliance, an association of public- and private-sector organisations committed to accelerating demand for connected technology through collaboration.
The summit, which marked the start of the capital’s Technology Week, featured an impressive cast of speakers representing all sectors of smart city development, including leaders from government and industry.
Hypercat Alliance founding director Justin Anderson opened proceedings with a keynote speech, followed by three illuminating sessions covering aspects of the smart city future. Panellists included Bettina Tratz-Ryzn, research VP, Smart Ecosystems, Gartner; Ruth McKernan, chief executive Innovate UK; Chi Onwurah, shadow minister for the digital economy; and Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands, chairman of Startup Fest Europe and former Head of Cabinet, European Union.
Senate Publishing chairman, Lord David Evans, was delighted to host the ‘Transforming the Way We Work’ section of the evening and entertained the audience with a humorous and pertinent poem:
